Lacecap Hydrangea

The leaves and the 'lace'-surrounded flower of this Lacecap Hydrangea gouaches make for a kind of 'corsage' that could be worn on a pretty dress at a festive occasion.
The leaves are a very deliberate example of the classic play of light and dark. The small leaf on the left catches most of the classic (11 o'clock) light, the upper half a bit more than the lower. The large center leaf is fully grown and a bit darker, and again the left side catches more light than the right side, that is slightly turned away from the eye. The third leaf, on the right, is the one that catches a good deal of the shadow cast by the big leaf, so it is done in more blue-ish tones and only indicates a bit more light down below, where it seems to escape the shadow of the large center leaf.
