Iris "Autumn Tryst'This Iris has a romantic name. A tryst is a secret meeting of lovers. It was indeed still blooming in the fall, and surrounded by a small group of fellow late bloomers, perhaps symbolizing a few suitors?
Another aspect that perfectly functions in the fall is its deep purple appearance, that, upon closer inspection, contains a myriad of other colors! Light pink, dark purple-blue and deep magenta are a few of them. The midrib, or the 'ongle' as the French call it is a psychedelic green and later on, when the Iris has completely opened, white petals and sepals with purple speckles take the stage. A gorgous, strong flower.
