Gate Posts with No Gate
This piece was done for the Poetry and Art project, a cooperation between Shanti Arts Publishing and American poet Peter Waldor. Peter has been fascinated for a long time with nature in general and millipedes in particular, especially where it comes to the way a millipede's legs elegantly wave the animal forward. He wrote a bundle of poems that form a prescription of sorts for paintings, drawings and mixed media images, meaning to inspire a group of energetic, creative, international artists. Shanti Arts Publishing and Peter Waldor are working on the publication of a high-quality, limited edition hard cover available during exhibitions and events, as well as a more widely available softcover edition. This poem has a special meaning to me personally, going back to the time that I used to live in Mendham, New Jersey:

You decide whether they have been there
a long time
or just pounded into the earth
like fresh totems
